Dennis Ybarra
September 17,1942 - May 16, 2011
We
in the TCTAA were very sad to learn of the passing of our President,
Dennis Ybarra, who passed away suddenly in his sleep at his home in
Roswell, New Mexico on Monday, May 16, 2011. Dennis has been a TCTAA
member since the beginning, and was very enthusiastic about the
organization and its goals. He was looking forward to serving as our
president and we were looking forward to having him in that role.
Dennis has a long association with the tactical airlift mission dating
back to 1970 when he was assigned to the 463rd Tactical Airlift Wing at
Clark AB, Philippines after serving in B-52s with SAC. He was initially
assigned to the 29th Tactical Airlift Squadron but since it was in the
process of deactivation he went to another squadron and ended up in the
774th Tactical Airlift Squadron as the squadrons at Clark deactivated
one by one. When he left Clark he went to Forbes AFB, Kansas to the
313th Tactical Airlift Wing and the 47th TAS. When the wing at Forbes
also inactivated and the base closed, he transferred to Dyess AFB,
Texas and was again in the 774th TAS. At one point Texas Governor (and
possible 2012 presidential candidate) Rick Perry was his copilot. After
retiring at Dyess as a major, he accepted a job with the city of
Roswell, New Mexico as the airport manager. He moved his family to
Roswell and made it his home for the rest of his life.
Dennis was heavily involved in a number of activities as reflected in his obituary. He was very active with veterans organizations and served as a volunteer driving veterans to medical appointments.
He was a great guy and will truly be missed.
